Eugene O’Neill’s widow, Carlotta, spent her final years in a mental hospital. As portrayed by Colleen Dewhurst, she relives her tempestuous married life. Carlotta’s stylized hospital room floated in a waterfront surround inspired by O’Neill’s sea plays. A translucent backdrop allowed projections and light box photos of O’Neill at various ages to fade in and out.
